To the younger,

Every movie I've ever seen says that I shouldn’t write you this letter. But you know what I think of what others tell me to do. When you talk to me you always thought I could tell the future. I would just smile sweetly and agree. But as you start this year I really would like to share some things with you. A suggestion list, if you will. Please take these to heart and don’t lose them like you did that Spanish homework.


As you start this chapter in your life I'm sure it will be that hardest one you have come through yet. But I know you’ll make it as sure as I am here. I also know that this year you will treasure for the rest of your life and keep it closest to your heart. You’ll meet some of the sweetest people you’ll ever know and some of the worst but always try to look past that and see within. You never know what you’ll find. And don’t be afraid to second guess the ones you thought you knew so well. Follow your heart, always, it hasn’t failed me yet. My head, yes. Don’t over think. Give into your desires, you may never get the chance again. Don’t second-guess your emotions. Just close your eyes, take a deep breath, and leap. It may be hard. I know it’s hard, but please it is the most important thing I could ever teach you. When you find someone you love, you have to let them know every chance you get and even more.

I could tell you to always help others but you already do. I could tell you to love with all your heart but that’s not necessary. But I want you to listen to your older sister. You haven’t met her yet but she will change your life. Never lie to her, always listen she knows what’s best. And remember that boy you denied staring at in art class? Well he’ll always be there, just watch yourself okay? And you know that girl you were so afraid of? The one with the arm socks? Well yeah she is scary but give her a chance. And you know the girl, your best friend, be careful.

I can only give you this list from my experiences and they don’t last far from now. But they do span longer than yours. So please keep them in that journal your grandmother gave you. I know how much you’ll use it. And please remember this and take it to heart. If you do, we may never meet again but if I die because you are happier than I wont mind a bit.
